Main Street Chillicothe has been named a 2019 Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA) Semifinalist by the National Main Street Center. Winners will be announced at the opening plenary of the Main Street Now Conference in Seattle, Washington, March 25, 2019.

The 2019 Great American Main Street Award recognizes exceptional Main Street America programs whose successes serve as a model for comprehensive, historic preservation-based commercial district revitalization. This year's 10 Semifinalists were selected from a nationwide pool of accredited applicants by a national jury based on their successful and innovative uses of the Main Street ApproachT. Criteria includes: strength of the Main Street America program in creating an exciting place to live, work, play and visit; commitment to historic preservation; implementation of model partnerships, and demonstrated success of the Main Street Approach. Over 90 communities have been recognized as winners since the award's inception in 1995.

Downtown Chillicothe is the venue for events and attractions like wine walks, Boofest and the 24 murals displayed throughout.  But the national jury is more interested in the successes associated with the development of downtown, since 2006.  Since that time, there have been 75 building rehabilitations, 54 net new businesses established, 213 net new jobs, over $11M in public and private investment, and 30,657 volunteer hours.

Executive Director, Ben White, credits the community for that success. "It's a credit to the people and the organizations that we partner with," said White, "It's a lot of work to maintain all of the projects that result in our success and we couldn't do it without the help of our partners, sponsors and volunteers."
