This week the spotlight is on Jake and Tara Haynes with JT'S Diner!

Over cups of green tea, we had the chance to chat with Jake and Tara Haynes, owners of JT’s Diner. As Chillicothe natives, they hold a deep love for their hometown. After spending time away, they decided to move back last year, driven by a shared passion for the community and a vision to meet a growing need for more breakfast options.

How It All Started:
The idea for JT’s Diner came naturally. Once they realized Chillicothe needed a dedicated breakfast spot, the brainstorming began. When Jake and Tara found the perfect location, that’s when the ball started rolling. They envisioned the diner as a step back in time —a classic diner-style experience that would also celebrate Chillicothe’s history , paired with a menu of simple yet delicious options.

.A Little-Known Fact About JT’s Diner:
Every member of their team has a background in the restaurant industry. This isn’t just a diner—it’s a place thoughtfully built by people who know and love the business .

The Story Behind the Name:
Naming the diner wasn’t easy. Jake and Tara considered hundreds of possibilities before a friend suggested keeping it simple and personal. The initials “JT” represent their names, and just like that, JT’s Diner was born .

Beyond the Diner:
Jake and Tara’s days don’t end with breakfast service. They also have a small farm with an array of animals including cats , chickens , turkeys , rabbits , horses , dogs , and even a mini horse .

What Do You Do for Fun?
When they’re not running the diner or managing their farm, Jake and Tara love spending time outdoors with their kids. Whether they’re hunting , fishing, riding horses, or simply enjoying nature, they value family time. And when it’s game day , you’ll find them cheering on the Chiefs!

Words of Advice for Day One:
Reflecting on their first day, Jake shared that patience is key . Tara added that being open to change is just as important. “Things will change—a lot,” she said, “and that’s okay.”

JT’s Diner isn’t just a place to grab breakfast—it’s a testament to the love and dedication Jake and Tara have for their hometown and of course, food. Stop by to experience the warm atmosphere and thoughtful menu that make this diner so special .
