Sliced Bread Day - July 7th

Chillicothe, Missouri – June 30, 2025 – On Saturday, June 7, Chillicothe once again celebrated its proud claim as the Home of Sliced Bread with a full day of activities, entertainment, and community fun during the annual Sliced Bread Day Celebration. But the celebration isn't over yet—Chillicothe will continue to honor its unique legacy as the birthplace of sliced bread leading up to the official anniversary on July 7.

This year's June celebration brought hundreds to downtown Chillicothe for the “Ready, Set, Bread” 5K, a community breakfast, the farmers market, and family activities that included bounce houses, face painting, live music, a bread baking contest, and trolley tours showcasing the town’s historic charm. The day ended with the crowd singing along during the Slice of Home evening concert featuring local musicians.

The event highlighted everything Chillicothe stands for: innovation, hometown pride, and the power of community. As the town that introduced the world to pre-sliced bread on July 7, 1928, Chillicothe continues to celebrate not just an invention—but a milestone that changed the way we live.

While the major festivities took place earlier in June, the true anniversary of sliced bread is just around the corner. On Monday, July 7, the community is invited to visit the Home of Sliced Bread Innovation Center at 100 Elm Street to learn more about the history behind the groundbreaking invention and the people who made it possible.

Chillicothe’s story isn’t just about bread—it’s about being the first to say, “We can do it better.” It’s about creativity, risk-taking, and recognizing a good idea when you see it. That’s something worth celebrating, every year.
