Then and Now #4 - Livingston County Library
📍 The Livingston County Library 📚 located at 450 Locust Street was constructed around 1916. The building, originally built as a federal building with a post office 📬, serving as one into the 1960s. During that time various spaces within the building were rented to and used by other government agencies 🗃️ and non-government organizations like the Red Cross. When the decision was made to build a new post office, George Somerville, founder of the Grand River Historical Society and Museum 🏛️ (and a member of the library board of trustees) worked with the government to obtain the building for the library at a cost of just one dollar. After some renovations in 1965, the building has served as the county library 📖 ever since.
