This week the spotlight is on Amy Jackson with Salty Hippo Studio!

Do you have a pet? How many & names?
Amy shares her space with two furry companions: Leena, her little dog, and Midnight, a former alley cat who decided the studio life was more his speed.

What keeps you excited and motivated?
One of the things that keeps Amy inspired is the response to her Quilt Tattoo™ panels. Completely unique in the market, these fabric panels allow crafters to incorporate personalized messages into their projects. Seeing how people use them fuels her passion and creativity.

What is something random that you can’t live without at work?
Every artist has their must-have tools, and for Amy, it’s a set of spatulas she found in a Japanese dollar store in Seattle. These unassuming utensils have proven to be the best ink mixers and scrapers she’s ever used. Without them, she’d be, quite literally, in a sticky situation.

What is the inspiration behind the name of your business?
The name “Salty Hippo” has its roots in an unforgettable experience. While camping in Botswana, Amy was surrounded by the deep, territorial calls of hippos. Their sound reminded her of her Sicilian grandfather’s hearty, often mischievous, laugh. That moment of boldness, joy, and unpredictability became the foundation for her business name—capturing the essence of embracing creativity with curiosity and humor.

What is your go-to music genre? More specifically, favorite artist or band?
When it comes to music, Amy’s taste is as bold as her designs. Rap, rock, and punk dominate her playlist, with Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Big K.R.I.T. always in rotation. And after seeing Green Day at Sandstone last year, she’s had them on repeat nonstop.

The Salty Hippo Studio is more than just a creative space—it’s a celebration of artistry, individuality, and the joy of making something unexpected. Stop by, meet Amy, and see where your own creativity takes you!
