Wreaths Across America in Downtown Chillicothe

Wreaths Across America is an annual tradition honoring the courage and sacrifices of our nation's military heroes. Each December, wreaths are delivered through the generosity of hundreds of volunteer truck drivers and their companies. Volunteers and sponsors join forces to lay thousands of fresh evergreen wreaths adorned with red bows on the graves of fallen veterans at cemeteries across the United States.

On December 16th, 2023, The Olive Prindle Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution participated in the nation-wide wreath laying event on the south side lawn of the Livingston County Courthouse. The DAR chapter members present were Darla Macoubrie, Mary Underwood, Ruth Ann Steele, and Hazel O'Connor-Hibner Wood. An additional memorial symbol was incorporated by placing stars on the wreath to honor each individual branch of service. The dedication was presented by Mary Underwood and the wreath was placed on the Veterans Memorial by local LICOVA members. After the wreath was placed, all individuals present participated in a moment of silence to remember past and present members of the armed forces.

This heartfelt gesture not only serves as a visual tribute to those who served in the armed forces but also symbolizes the enduring gratitude and remembrance of a grateful nation. Wreaths Across America’s mission is to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the value of freedom for generations to come. Main Street Chillicothe is proud of community members and organizations for continually bringing thoughtful and kind moments to our downtown. Our community is an amazing place to live because the amazing people in it often give way more than they get. Thank you to the Olive Prindle Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution for all that they do.
