April Showers Brings May Flowers
Have you noticed the new bursts of color blooming throughout downtown Chillicothe? If not, consider this your official invitation to take a stroll and enjoy the beauty of our freshly planted flowers!
Each fall, the Main Street Chillicothe Design Committee begins planning the next year’s floral displays, working closely with the City of Chillicothe and the Parks Department to bring seasonal color and charm to our downtown district. This annual beautification effort enhances the vibrancy of our community, making downtown an even more inviting place to shop, dine, and explore.
The summer plantings were placed in May and will remain on display through October. This year, 84 individual flower pots were adopted by downtown businesses—a true testament to community pride and participation. The flower pots are brimming with a colorful mix of Celosia, Angelonia, Begonias, Lantanas, and Petunias, which can also be spotted in Silver Moon Plaza and near the iconic Dairy Mural at Locust and Jackson.
Twelve brick planter boxes are blooming with the same vibrant mix, plus the elegant addition of ornamental fountain grass. And don’t miss the Kelly Poling Arts District on Locust, where Begonias, Petunias, Lantanas, and trailing Scaevolas spill from the wraparound planters on light poles, adding a splash of artistry to every corner.
This year’s planting contract is with Beth Weidner of Weed’s Greenhouse in Tina. Beth has partnered with Main Street Chillicothe for many years, bringing her expertise and care to each planting season. We also want to extend a special thank you to Michael Poindexter, who keeps the flowers thriving all summer long with his diligent watering efforts. If you see Michael downtown, be sure to wave and thank him!
Don’t forget—these beautiful blooms make the perfect backdrop for your next photo. Share your snapshots on social media using #ChilliBlooms, and be sure to follow Main Street Chillicothe so we can admire your perspective, too.
Downtown is for everyone—come take a walk, smell the flowers, and enjoy all that Chillicothe has to offer.
