Then and Now #26 - Crellin-Kline Building

Last Updated 7/31/2025Posted in Then and Now

πŸ“The Crellin-Klien Building is located at 705 Webster Street πŸ›οΈ. Although the construction date is unclearπŸ•°οΈ, it is likely it was in a similar timeframe as its neighbor, the First National Bank Building #1 🏦. The property was purchased by William E. Crellin in 1879 πŸ“œ, and he owned the property until 1923 πŸ“†. During much of that period the building was a jewelry store πŸ’, then a tailor’s shop 🧡. It also served as the local hub for US Express around 1901 πŸ“¦, delivering packages around town 🚚. Between then and the 1930s πŸ•°οΈ it was mostly a barber shop πŸ’ˆ though the upstairs also had a few separate uses such as a dentist's office 🦷. Since then, the building has seen a series of various different shops πŸ›οΈ and even a restaurant 🍽️ more recently. Today the building is occupied by Grounded for Life 🌱. The building itself shares a lot of the Italianate qualities πŸ›οΈ of its neighbor, though it expresses those qualities a bit differently 🎨. Floral detailing 🌸 is visible on the second story around the window πŸͺŸ and roofline 🏠, giving the building a little charm of its own ✨.
