Steve & Janette Voorhies with Main House on Main

Downtown Spotlight
This week the spotlight is on our one of our favorite downtown couples Steve and Janette Voorhies at Martin House Gifts!

Date Nights & Deck Dances
After decades together and side-by-side in business, Steve and Janette’s idea of fun is simple: being home and intentionally not talking shop. Whether they’re checking out a new restaurant, scrolling for Netflix gold, or dancing under the stars on their back deck, they prove that romance and relaxation can still thrive—even after pricing gift tags all day.

The "Human" Pets
The Voorhies household includes two beloved dogs who are 100% convinced they’re people—and honestly, Steve and Janette aren’t about to break it to them. Steve is also known to befriend a few "alley cats" from time to time... though none have made it to official pet status. Yet.

Favorite Main Street Event
Hands down, it’s the Spring Wine Walk! Steve and Janette love seeing new faces in the shop, especially those who discover the magic of “shop and drop”—a handy feature allowing you to leave your purchases behind and pick them up later (because shopping with wine in hand is an Olympic sport, and they are here to support you).

A Few Fun Facts About Steve & Janette
Steve was born and raised in Indiana and is a die-hard Indy 500 fan—he hasn’t missed a race in years. He loves golf, even though golf doesn’t always love him back. And here’s a fun bit of trivia: he was almost college roommates with Mike Pence... until Mike requested a different room to bunk with a buddy. His loss, Steve.
Janette was born in St. Joseph and spent her early years right here in Chillicothe before moving away in 5th grade. She’s a proud preacher’s daughter and a full-blown thrill-seeker. Whether it's roller coasters or jumping out of airplanes, Janette is all about the adrenaline. Gravity? No big deal. Bad gift wrapping? Now that’s a nightmare.

Interesting Fact:
This dynamic duo knows a thing or two about convenience and kindness. Can’t make it to the store? No worries—they’ll bring the store to you! Martin House offers free local delivery within city limits, including bereavement gifts delivered straight to area funeral homes. From wreaths to lanterns and plenty of charming pieces in between, if you need a last-minute gift, they’ve probably already delivered one next door.
