Then and Now #22 - Ritz Theater
πThe Ritz Theater π , once standing at 500 Washington Street, was originally constructed in 1895 ποΈ as a Masonic Temple. Previously the site had been home to a church built in the 1850s π. The church βͺ and property were sold in the 1890s π° and changed hands several times π, housing various businesses πͺ, before eventually ending up with the local Masons βοΈ. After the new building was constructed, the Masons continued to lease space within it to businesses π§Ύ. The Ritz Theater π¬ moved in during the 1930s until the 1950s π°οΈ. Between the 1950sβ70s the building sat vacant πΈοΈ, and throughout the β80s and early β90s it was occasionally occupied π§ββοΈ but struggled to attract a permanent business π. In 1996, the now dilapidated building was demolished π₯. The lot has since become a small pocket park πΏ with a stone commemorating the buildings formerly on the site πͺ¨.
