Then and Now #8 - The Loomis Building
π The Loomis Building, located at 514 Washington Street, is a two-story building with a stone facadeπͺ¨ on the second story. Originally constructed in 1898π°οΈ and named after Chillicothe City Attorney Charles Alexander Loomis, the building first served as a post officeπ¬. After the post office had moved out in 1925 a variety of different businesses ran out of the building and a handful of people lived in the upper story when it wasn't also being used for offices. In no particular order, bookstoresπ, farm stores, paint storesπ¨, florists, pool hallsπ±, real estate companies, and appliance retailersπ all operated out of the building at some point with some relatively brief periods where it sat vacant. Since 1999 the Chamber of CommerceποΈ has owned the building and operates out of the first floor. Mainstreet Chillicothe's offices are located on the second floor.
