Then and Now #8 - The Loomis Building

📍 The Loomis Building, located at 514 Washington Street, is a two-story building with a stone facade🪨 on the second story. Originally constructed in 1898🕰️ and named after Chillicothe City Attorney Charles Alexander Loomis, the building first served as a post office📬. After the post office had moved out in 1925 a variety of different businesses ran out of the building and a handful of people lived in the upper story when it wasn't also being used for offices. In no particular order, bookstores📚, farm stores, paint stores🎨, florists, pool halls🎱, real estate companies, and appliance retailers🔌 all operated out of the building at some point with some relatively brief periods where it sat vacant. Since 1999 the Chamber of Commerce🏛️ has owned the building and operates out of the first floor. Mainstreet Chillicothe's offices are located on the second floor.
