Then and Now #9 - First National Bank Building
๐ The First National Bank Building, located at 701 Locust Street, underwent an extensive remodel ๐๏ธ in 1906. The building has some impressive classical elements๐๏ธ with the large pilasters, the decorative elements above the windows, and the dentils along the cornice. By early 1907 the First National Bank ๐ฆ had moved out of its previous location ๐งฑ at 703 Webster Street to the new building. They remained at the location until 1932, and the property became vacant until 1936. Following mortgage companies occupying the space from 1936-39. Slater's Food Mart๐, then Gipeโs Market๐ฅซ occupied the space until 1975. After that the building was used for various law officesโ๏ธ until 2006. Today, American Family Insurance operates out of the building. The upper story has seen a similarly vast variety of uses but since 1990 it seems to have been vacant.
