Danny Gramenz with PHSC Hobbies
Downtown Spotlight is Danny Gramenz!
PHSC Hobbies, also known as Pinch Hitter Sports Cards and Gaming, is a local hobby shop located at 710 Washington St in Chillicothe, Missouri. Specializing in a diverse range of collectibles, they offer products such as model trains, sports card boxes, graded sports cards, Pokémon cards, Magic: The Gathering (MTG) items, graded coins, and comic books. Their inventory includes both new releases and hard-to-find, discontinued items, catering to collectors of all ages and interests.
Do you collect anything?
Well… he does own a card shop, so yes, baseball cards ⚾. Ironically enough, Danny collects what he sells! Right now, he’s working on a very specific collection: a PSA-graded set of 1965 Topps baseball players. Out of over 500, he’s down to less than 90 cards to complete the set. On top of that, he also collects old money 💵 and comic books 📚—because why stop at just one hobby?
What is an interesting fact about your business that most people probably don’t know?
The sheer number of collectors out there 🤯. Danny says he’s always surprised by how many people share the same passion. With his upcoming move to 710 Washington Street 🏢, he’s excited to see who walks through the doors of his new storefront.
What is your favorite downtown mural?
Danny’s pick is the Railway mural 🚂 over on Locust Street. He’s big into model trains, so it tracks.
What keeps you excited and motivated?
In the sports card world, there’s nothing quite like a “hit” 💥. That’s when a kid opens a pack and pulls an awesome card. For Danny, watching that moment of excitement never gets old.
What is something you can’t live without at work?
Cherry Coke Zero 🥤. Danny refers to it as “the elixir of the gods.” (We won’t argue with him.)
Any unusual talents or interests?
Danny says his whole business is basically one big unusual interest 😎. He’s always diving into new areas—recently he’s been learning more about Pokémon cards 🐉 and Magic: The Gathering 🧙♂️. So, if you thought sports cards were his only game, think again.
